Industry Standards Overview
The Tree Guild of Western Australia has developed an integrated system of self-regulation, incorporating accredited training and industry-maintained codes of conduct. This professional standards system has been designed to provide higher standards of training and quality assurance, to provide consumers with access to an effective dispute resolution framework, and to achieve better safety and environmental outcomes in the arboriculture industry in Western Australia.
The foundation of the system is the Code for Professional Conduct, which sets out the commitment made by all members of the Tree Guild to observe the highest standards of ethical behaviour and professional conduct.
Qualification Standards have been established which describe the competencies and ongoing professional development requirements for individual and corporate members who wish to achieve recognition as an Accredited Professional Member of the Tree Guild.
The Occupational Health, Safety and Environment Guidance Code has been developed in consultation with key industry and regulatory stakeholders. The Code seeks to provide information on the minimum legislative requirements relating to workplace health and safety when working with trees, as well as examples of good safety practices in the industry.

In addition to the Tree Guild’s professional standards system, which applies only to members of the Tree Guild, all operators in Western Australia are covered by Codes of Practice established by Energy Safety WA, WorkSafe WA and Safe Work Australia.
The State Government regulatory body, Energy Safety WA has a mandatory Code of Practice which must be followed by all operators working near power lines. Further information about Energy Safety WA and the Code of Practice is outlined here
WorkSafe WA and Safe Work Australia are the state and federal government agencies responsible for Occupational Health and Safety. Both bodies have responsibility for developing and administering workplace safety standards. Further information is available here
